My name is Patrick Michel.

I love running. Whether I run 10 km or thousands, my passion for long-distance running is a constant. Since 2007, that passion has never faded. In fact, it grows stronger year after year. Endurance running has given me so much throughout the years and has provided me with invaluable tools that help me in my work and my personal life.

Running has also provided me with a way to help other by engaging in unusual running events that captivate the general public and helps me raise awareness and funds for people who need support. It is for this reason that this place is called BRAVEWERK.

I have been a marketing strategist for over 20 years in various Montreal agencies and a sports photographer, on the side, for almost ten. For the last seven years, I have been combining all my professional, recreational and sporting skills to turn BRAVEWERK into a serious endurance running organization, always ready to step up and help those who need.

I also coach runners who want to become endurance runners in the real sense of the term. I train people to incorporate endurance running into their lives and reap the benefits that physical and mental strength can provide in every aspect of their professional and personal lives.

What is an ultra-endurance runner?

An ultra-endurance runner is an uncommon breed of athlete with a unique combination of physical and mental toughness. They are runners who are constantly pushing their limits and putting their endurance levels to the test. Their passion for running is driven by the thrill of pushing their bodies and minds to the brink and setting new limits.

Physical endurance is essential for ultra-endurance runners. They have trained their bodies to withstand the most extreme conditions and distances. Their bodies can perform at a high level, even when physically exhausted. They have developed a powerful cardiovascular system and muscular endurance that allow them to continue running for hours on end.

Mental toughness is equally crucial for ultra-endurance runners. They have developed a fierce determination and unwavering focus. They are not afraid to push through the pain and mental fatigue that often comes with running such long distances. They have a deep inner strength that motivates them to keep going, even when things get really tough. They have the mental toughness to overcome any obstacle and never give up.

An ultra-endurance runner is also a runner who is always ready to run, no matter what the conditions are like. They are comfortable running in scorching heat, bitter cold, rain, snow, and even on technical trails or tracks. They are not intimidated by the elements. Instead, they embrace the challenge and use it as an opportunity to push their limits and improve.

In conclusion, ultra-endurance runners are athletes who always find ways to do more with less. They are driven by a deep passion for running and a thirst for pushing their limits. They have developed both physical and mental endurance, which allows them to run any distance at any time, in any climate, on any surface, and never quit. They are a true testament to the human spirit.

What have I done lately?

I have been running for over fifteen years. I notably ran, in 2019, two marathons a day for sixty consecutive days, and recently, I ran from Montreal to Quebec City to support the cause of 5-year-old Malik Fontaine, who suffers from a severe form of leukemia.

And I have more epic runs coming up soon.

People often look at runners like me with admiration and envy. Then, they quickly shift to wondering what kind of person voluntarily schedules suffering and enjoys every minute of it. They see us as prisoners of an addiction, irresponsible, egocentric, selfish, obsessed, and borderline crazy.

In reality, we are passionate, dedicated, and driven by an unwavering desire to improve ourselves. We love pushing our limits, and we strive to become better individuals. Running long distances is inexplicably positively transformative. But you must be willing to pay the price. It's hard work.

I'm by no means unique. Around the world, hundreds of thousands engage in endurance running. But as distances increase, the number of individuals willing to subject themselves to the pain decreases rapidly. It's no longer just about the body. It's about the mind.

This mental capacity to overcome anything life throws at you is the most compelling benefit of endurance running.
